Garth Crooks stunned by Wilfried Gnonto after Leeds United win v Bournemouth

Leeds United came from behind to secure a 4-3 win against Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday (5 November) at Elland Road.

Garth Crooks has picked Crysencio Summerville in his team of the week for BBC Sport after the last round of Premier League action, but it was Wilfried Gnonto that shocked.

Gnonto produced great pace and acceleration to set up the winner for Summerville, and it was the strength of the Italian that left him rubbing his eyes at what he saw.

“Bournemouth should have put this game to bed when they were 3-1 up at Elland Road but were not ruthless enough. The moment Leeds got the equaliser there was only one winner,” wrote Crooks for BBC Sport.

“Jesse Marsch must take some credit for this exciting comeback. The Leeds manager made important changes to a side that was struggling and those changes worked especially Wilfred Gnonto – who looks like the strongest 19-year-old I’ve ever seen.

“The star of the show was once again Summerville, who last week put Liverpool to the sword. The young Dutchman remained a constant threat to the Cherries and in the end cost them the match.”

Fightback

Gnonto is yet to make a Premier League start for the Whites, but his performance against Bournemouth will give him a lot of confidence.

The pace, movement, and timing of the delivery for the killer pass show Leeds have great talent on their hands.

With Patrick Bamford once again picking up an injury, could Jesse Marsch give the youngster an opportunity to lead the line? The young talents like Sam Greenwood and Summerville have done outstandingly well so far, and it’s really encouraging to see.

Only a week ago, Leeds were close to the drop zone having failed to pick up a win since August. After picking up two wins in a row, they have now climbed to 12th in the league.

The back-to-back victories will give them the much-needed boost ahead of their gruelling fixture list.

There is still a lot of work left to be done. The Whites are conceding goals cheaply, and that is something the Whites should work out in training.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are set to jet out to Spain with a major decision being made behind the scenes at Elland Road.
