Garth Crooks names Leeds star Kalvin Phillips in Premier League Team of the Week
Garth Crooks has named Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips in his Premier League Team of the Week from the latest round of fixtures.
The Yorkshire Pirlo was instrumental against the physicality of the Clarets but also sprayed around possession of the ball no matter where or when.
Crooks has compared Phillips to Bryan Robson and Jordan Henderson, as he continues to take the Premier League by storm in his first season.
Writing in his BBC column, Crooks was thrilled by Phillips who was at the heart of the Whites’ crushing win at Turf Moor.
“They couldn’t cope with Leeds’ sheer running power at this stage of the season,” he wrote.
“The player at the heart of some glorious football for Leeds was Kalvin Phillips. A beautiful striker of the ball, always looking to play forward and totally unselfish.
“I’ve likened his game to that of Manchester United legend Bryan Robson, which might have been a stretch, but he’s definitely a Jordan Henderson. If Phillips goes on to have the career either of those players have had, he will have done extremely well.”
Heart.
Phillips is in the middle of everything positive at Elland Road.
Leeds have only won 30% of games without the midfielder this season in the Premier League, and although Robin Koch has recently impressed in that role, no one can compare.
The pass in the build-up to our fourth goal was simply out of this world and hit back at every last doubter who claims Phillips only passes backwards.
Every single team in the Premier League would take Phillips in that midfield role, and there aren’t many better than the England international in holding midfield.
Unfortunately for them, he is here to stay, and we are looking at a future captain and legend of the Whites taking his place in history the more he plays.
