Gaetano Berardi picks out Leeds goal of the season, Luke Ayling jokingly responds
Last season was full of many massive moments for Leeds United, and none more so than the 1-0 win against Swansea City.
The sheer delight when Pablo Hernandez found the back of the net against his former side in the 90th minute will stick in the memory for years to come.
You could tell from the celebrations after the goal that the Whites squad knew they had earned promotion to the Premier League, even if it wasn’t mathematically confirmed.
That goal probably wasn’t the best of the season, but it was certainly one of the most important and that has seen it gain much praise.
Leeds defender Gaetano Berardi has picked it as his goal of the season on his personal Instagram account on Saturday.
Luke Ayling won the official award for his thunderous strike against Huddersfield and immediately responded to his teammate’s claim.
“You’re wrong but I will let you off,” he joked.
When Berardi makes a decision or statement, we think you would be best off letting him off – we’ve all seen what the Swiss enforcer is capable of.
The experienced defender is out-of-contract at Elland Road and is also out of action for at least six months after having surgery on a torn ACL.
Despite that, Phil Hay has reported that he expects Berardi to earn a new deal in West Yorkshire, a reward for his loyalty shown to the club since arriving.
The argument for the goal of the season will continue when training resumes, with Ayling not usually one to back down – quit while you’re ahead Luke.
