Gabriel Gudmundsson utters one word as Leeds award discussion emerges
Gabriel Gudmundsson’s reaction to ending his goal involvement drought at Leeds United said it all after his performance against Norwich City.
The fullback was exceptional as Daniel Farke’s side progressed into the quarter-finals. Leeds are now just one game away from Wembley, with a cup tie against West Ham set for the start of April.
Gudmundsson, who joined the Premier League side in the summer, has been one of the more consistent performers across the season.
However, more has been expected in terms of output from the 26-year-old, and he finally delivered for Leeds against Norwich.
After putting that talk behind him, the Swede has been tipped for a significant award at Leeds, and breaking that duck will certainly help.

What did Gabriel Gudmundsson say after Leeds’ win vs Norwich?
Gudmundsson’s goal and assist against Norwich secured Leeds’ place in the quarter-finals, and the defender reacted to his performance following the match.
According to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth, the Swedish defender was relieved to put some goal contributions on his tally at Elland, with his reaction showing the weight was off his shoulders.
The journalist has also put Gudmundsson’s name into the hat when it comes to Leeds’ player of the season award.
Smyth said on the Inside Elland Road podcast: “I thought he was superb, absolutely superb against Norwich, and it was nice to see him cap it off with some end product.
“He could have had two assists in that game. He ends the game with a goal and an assist. He was absolutely delighted to get both. His word after the game was ‘finally’. It is just more evidence for the player of the season argument.”
Gudmundsson will now be looking to use that performance as a launchpad and add even more goals and assists to his name.
He has the perfect opportunity to do so as the Whites face Crystal Palace on 15 March. Earlier in the season, Farke’s side put four goals past Oliver Glasner’s side in a 4-1 win.
Who are Leeds’ candidates for player of the season?
This season, Leeds have the luxury of multiple players who would be deserving winners of the coveted award of player of the season.
Joe Rodon and Anton Stach are certain contenders for Leeds; however, the impact of Dominic Calvert-Lewin must not be forgotten either.
The Englishman has scored 10 goals in 26 Premier League appearances.

If Gudmundsson continues on from his FA Cup display, then a few more goals and assists by the end of the season could shoot him up the list.
Survival is not yet confirmed for the LS11 side, and Farke will need all of those aforementioned players to prove their worthiness of that honour.
