Gabriel Agbonlahor savages Patrick Bamford after performance v Southampton, Leeds United still ‘bang in trouble’
Gabriel Agbonlahor has blasted Patrick Bamford for his performance against Southampton, and says Leeds are still “bang in trouble” despite their win.
The Whites claimed all three points thanks to Junior Firpo’s late goal, their first win since October, and climbed out of the relegation zone in the process in Javi Gracia’s first game in charge.
But speaking live on talkSPORT to Jamie O’Hara after the game (25 February), Agbonlahor insisted they were far from out of trouble following a “painful” performance and questioned why Bamford still starts games.
“Honestly Jamie, this is not harsh on you, but watching today’s game, Leeds vs Southampton was like watching your Billericay teams,” he said.
“Honestly it was painful. Leeds for me, massive result you know, getting a result today.
“But I wouldn’t get carried away if I was Leeds because that was painful to watch today.
“Bamford, Bamford couldn’t move. I don’t understand why he’s still starting.
“Leeds and Southampton for me are still bang in trouble.”
Results business
For the last six weeks or so Leeds have been playing well but not getting results, and we were constantly told that it’s a results business.

Fans all agreed and that’s why it was the right time for Jesse Marsch to leave the club. You can’t now slaughter the club for winning games in an ugly fashion though.
All that matters is the three points right now, and Gracia had us looking solid defensively and we got a big win to build momentum against a team also in the battle around us, meaning it was an even bigger result for us.
As for Bamford, his questions are valid but obviously exaggerated because that’s what Agbonlahor does.
Fans know Bamford isn’t the player he once was, and if everyone is fit and available he probably doesn’t start. But he ran hard for the team all game and helped us pick up a vital three points, which as already stated, is all that matters right now.
