Gabby Agbonlahor takes aim at 'kamikaze' Leeds United under Jesse Marsch ahead of Aston Villa clash

Gabriel Agbonlahor has laid bare his opinion on the “kamikaze defending” of Leeds United under Jesse Marsch this season when speaking with talkSPORT EDGE.

The Whites have struggled to keep out the goals so far this season, shipping a worrying 31 goals from just 17 games in the Premier League.

Marsch has already strengthened his back-line in the January transfer window by snapping up Austrian international Max Wober, who can play at either centre-back or left-back if needed, but may look to add further bodies as the window progresses.

When asked whether Leeds United were an exciting team to watch on talkSPORT EDGE, former Aston Villa striker Agbonlahor dissected their style of play in brutal fashion.

He said: “You know they’re going to leak goals, you know it’s going to be kamikaze defending, you know they’re going to throw players forward and then try and create.

“It’s never a dull game, you won’t see a boring 0-0 with Leeds United.”

Worrying signs

The number of goals leaked so far this season isn’t exactly an uncommon sight for Leeds fans to witness.

Under Marcelo Bielsa, the high-risk-high-reward nature of his game plan did leave the Whites a little vulnerable at the back, and this seems to be the case under Marsch as well.

Shipping four goals to Spurs and three to Bournemouth before the World Cup break started a worrying trend for Leeds, which has carried over into the New Year. Another pair of goals were conceded in the Whites’ past two games against relegation-threatened West Ham and Championship side Cardiff City.

If Marsch is to steer clear of the relegation zone this season, he will need to tighten up his defence and ensure they are harder to play against.

At the moment, they are simply too easy to breach, and fans will hope the introduction of Wober can improve their fortunes in the coming months.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are keen on signing this Wolves player in January.
