Gabby Agbonlahor shares what he loves about Leeds amid Daniel Farke sack talks

Leeds have had a rollercoaster of a season under Daniel Farke so far.

The Peacocks went on a four-game losing run in November, and a consensus had grown that Farke deserved to be sacked.

However, Leeds play Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday, and they have the chance to go eight points clear of the relegation zone.

Most fans would have taken that outcome at the start of the season, and Gabby Agbonlahor loves how spirited the team has become under Farke.

Gabby Agbonlahor praises Daniel Farke after nearly being sacked by Leeds

Farke was on the verge of being dismissed at the start of December, but changing his tactics ultimately saved his job.

Leeds were 2-0 down at half-time against Man City on 29 November, and Farke decided to change the formation to a 5-3-2 shape.

They fought back to make it 2-2 before conceding a late Phil Foden winner, but it has since become the turning point in their season.

Speaking on talkSPORT on 26 January, Agbonlahor and former Leeds striker Jermaine Beckford spoke about Farke’s recent resurgence in charge.

Agbonlahor said: “I think a couple of months ago, there were talks about the manager getting sacked, and it wasn’t going well.

“Since then, they’ve been scared of nobody, and that’s what I love about Leeds now.”

Beckford added: “Leeds were getting beaten up and battered at the Etihad, and the change to five at the back was a huge, huge difference.”

After the 3-2 loss to Man City, Farke stuck with that formation against Chelsea and ended up securing a valuable 3-1 win against Enzo Maresca’s side on 3 December.

Since then, the Whites have lost just one game, and they have massively boosted their survival hopes in the process.

Unfortunately for Leeds, the teams below them keep picking up points, and Farke still has a lot of work to do, but they will relish that.

Leeds still have a long way to go before securing Premier League survival

18th-placed West Ham have now won back-to-back games, and they’re doing everything that they can to put pressure on the teams above them.

Nottingham Forest have responded well, earning four points in their last two games against Arsenal and Brentford.

The Whites could go level on points with Tottenham and Crystal Palace if they manage to beat Everton, but they wouldn’t be in the clear at all.

Leeds host Nottingham Forest at Elland Road on 6 February, and that could define the course of their season.

This is shaping up to be one of the most intense relegation battles in recent years, and Farke has proved that he is the perfect man to lead them to safety.
