Gabby Agbonlahor predicts ‘inevitable’ Leeds United showdown v Sunderland

Gabby Agbonlahor has predicted the inevitable outcome as Leeds United face Sunderland at Elland Road.

Daniel Farke’s side face Sunderland in the Championship on Monday (17 February) as the Whites look to retain top spot in the league table.

Sheffield United are first after their win at Luton, but the Peacocks have the opportunity to take the lead with even a draw over the Black Cats.

Elland Road is awaiting Premier League promotion, but fans should be wary of being overconfident with much of the season remaining.

Gabby Agbonlahor predicts Leeds United v Sunderland

Agbonlahor believes the Whites will beat Sunderland at home.

The former Aston Villa star feels it’s inevitable that Farke’s team will get the three points at Elland Road on Monday evening.

While Sunderland have been in fine form away from home recently, the Peacocks have been dominant at Elland Road in recent months.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (17 February, 7:36), Agbonlahor said: “Leeds have won 12 of the last 13 at home, but Sunderland have won the last two away games.

“Tough game, but Elland Road looks like a fortress. The inevitable is a win this evening for Leeds.”

Daniel Farke to get win v Sunderland

All eyes will be on Farke to see how he sets the team up against Sunderland to get the necessary result.

The Whites have been dominant in the Championship after some impressive wins recently, and they should be able to get the better of the Black Cats.

Chris Wilder has admitted Sheffield United’s results will not bother the Peacocks, but there will be some pressure on the players to get back to the top.

Farke will have a massive task at Elland Road, and the German head coach needs to ensure his team get promoted at the end of the season.

The West Yorkshire outfit were close last season but lost to Southampton in the play-offs final, which looking at the promoted teams now, looks to have given Leeds more preparation time.

Apart from the slip-up against Millwall in the FA Cup on 8 February, the Whites have been in sensational form in the 2025 calendar.

Sunderland are themselves looking to get into the top two, and Regis Le Bris’ team can’t be underestimated going into the game.
