Gabby Agbonlahor fearful for Leeds United as Ally McCoist discusses ‘ridiculous’ relegation battle live on talkSPORT

Gabby Agbonlahor has admitted he is “fearful” for Leeds United and their chances of avoiding Premier League relegation this season.

The Whites are currently sitting 14th in the Premier League table after a crazy 4-2 win against Wolves last weekend, with Javi Gracia’s men having 11 games of the season remaining to secure their top-flight status.

Speaking live on talkSPORT Breakfast (22 March), Ally McCoist labelled the 2022/23 season as “ridiculous” before Agbonlahor delivered his relegation verdict that any of the current bottom nine teams could feasibly be playing Championship football next year.

“I think it is so hard to call. I think Southampton showed against Spurs they’re not just going to give up, Leeds against Wolves, and beating them 4-2,” Agbonlahor said.

“Every team from Crystal Palace downwards, I’m fearful for them because these are like ten cup finals, who wants it more?”

McCoist added: “I think two weeks ago, the bottom three teams won and moved out of the bottom three, and it happened the following weekend, and it was ridiculous.

“So I can’t remember it, at this stage of the season, being this tight.”

Seriously tight

Although Leeds United moved up the lofty heights of 14th in the Premier League table after their win over Wolves, this doesn’t tell the whole story of how tight the relegation fight could be.

With just four points separating the bottom nine teams, it will likely be a game of snakes and ladders all season long to see who ultimately gets relegated to the Championship.

What could carry a bearing is the tough fixture against Spurs that Leeds have at Elland Road on the final day of the season.

Elsewhere, Crystal Palace host Nottingham Forest, Everton play Bournemouth, and Leicester are at home to West Ham – fixtures that are easily winnable for any of these teams.

Gracia’s men must ensure they are clear of the bottom three come the final day of the season, as the prospect of a Spurs side fighting for Champions League football could be a tough ask.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites may have yet another injury concern going into the international break as one player had trouble with his left ankle after the Wolves win.
