Gabby Agbonlahor delivers Southampton-Jesse Marsch verdict after Leeds United stint

Gabby Agbonlahor believes that Southampton will get relegated if they hire former Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch.

The former Aston Villa forward brought up the American’s record at Elland Road and believes that he did not do well enough with the Whites squad.

Leeds currently find themselves just outside the bottom three and are yet to find another manager to replace Marsch.

Abgonlahor said on talkSPORT, “Two wins in 17 games for Leeds United. Win rate 30 per cent. This season, he’s just got the best out of the squad of players.

“Leeds United, you look at that squad and you think that they should be doing better. Shoud be getting more points, getting more wins.

“To go from that, to being sacked by Leeds and for Southampton to sign him. Now, another risk [after Nathan Jones].

“This guy, Jesse Marsch has been sacked by Leeds United and for the job, out of all the managers, you go and pick him.

“For me, it doesn’t make sense and it means that Southampton will get relegated.”

Weird one

For once, Agbonlahor makes a solid point when talking about Leeds.

Marsch failed with what was a pretty decent squad and the fact that he was backed to bring in the players he wants and also break the club record, makes it all the more astonishing.

Marcelo Bielsa proved that he could be trusted with the funds after what he did in the Championship when the Whites signed Rodrigo.

However, they did not back him in the January window and that’s something they did with Marsch but the American still failed to deliver.

Leeds cannot keep wasting time and hoping Michael Skubala and co will turn things around at Elland Road.

Even if it’s an interim manager, they need to make the appointment soon as this squad needs fresh ideas and Skubala may continue much of the same methods from the Marsch days.
