Gabby Agbonlahor believes Leeds United have lost £20million off Kalvin Phillips value in the past year
Gabby Agbonlahor believes Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips will cost £40million this summer but suggested he was worth £60million in the summer of 2021.
It has been revealed [90min, 3 June] that Manchester City are readying a bid for the England midfielder and that a move to the Etihad would appeal to the 26-year-old.
However, if Phillips was to move in the summer, Agbonlahor believes Leeds would’ve been able to generate a further £20million if they had sold him in the 2021 summer window.
Talking on talkSPORT EDGE on Sunday [5 June], Agbonlahor said: “I’d say Kalvin Phillips is worth £40million now but a year ago I’d probably say £60million.”
Not far off
Agbonlahor isn’t far off with his evaluation of Phillips at present.
He has two years left on his deal and at 26 is in the prime of his career at present, so there is a chance his performance will stay at its current level and not improve too drastically.
Leeds also need to remember that the Phillips is primarily a defensive midfielder and offers very little attacking output at present.
There is no way that a side is paying £60million for a defensive midfielder who is edging into the prime of his career with very little attacking output.

Considering that Rodri cost Manchester City £56million in 2019 when he was much younger than Phillips is now, there is no way Leeds can ask for more than that figure.
Leeds will need to resolve the Phillips situation this summer.
If they let his contract situation trundle into the new season they face losing the England man for a seriously reduced price.
If any offer of £40million comes in for the midfielder then they should seriously consider letting the 26-year-old depart Elland Road.
