Former striker Michael Bridges highlights former 'seething' defender who could help send Leeds United down

Michael Bridges has highlighted Pontus Jansson as a player who will be eager to prove a point against Leeds United on Sunday [22 May].

Jansson will be lining up for Brentford against the Whites in their vital match at the Brentford Community Stadium.

The Swede left Leeds in 2019 after being at the club since 2016 after a public fallout with Marcelo Bielsa after missing out on promotion through the playoffs.

However, Bridges claims that Jansson will be the most motivated person on the pitch on Sunday because of the manner of his Leeds departure.

Talking on the GegenPod, Bridges said: “If anybody’s gonna get this team [Brentford] up, it’s Jansson.

“He used to be at Leeds, he’s an absolute crackpot.

Bridges added: “He’s still absolutely seething from the way he was let go.”

Tough match

Wins have been hard to come by for Leeds at present and Brentford is a tough test with the Bees in good recent form and looking to break into the top ten.

Thomas Frank’s side beat Leeds’ relegation rivals Everton 3-2 on Sunday [15 May].

It is written in the stars for Jansson to have a significant impact on Leeds United’s fate on Sunday.

Despite being unhappy with the manner of his exit, his move to Brentford has proven to be an excellent one for his career.

Jansson is finishing the season in fine form with three goals this season and playing a big part in Brentford’s superb maiden Premier League campaign.

Jesse Marsch and Leeds will be praying for Burnley to drop points against Aston Villa on Thursday [19 May].

If the Clarets pick a point then the Whites will begin the final day in the relegation zone knowing they must pick up a win at the Bees.
