Former Liverpool and Everton boss Rafa Benitez open to Leeds United job if Javi Gracia gets sack – Sky Sports pundit

Darren Bent believes that former Liverpool and Everton manager Rafa Benitez will be open to taking over at Leeds United.

After the 4-1 defeat against Bournemouth, Javi Gracia’s future at the club is in serious jeopardy despite taking over in February.

While no names have been floated and a permanent decision hasn’t been made, Bent, who also works as a Sky Sports pundit, believes Benitez makes sense.

He told talkSPORT, “Bielsa is not the only option but it’s the name I’ve heard more than anyone. It’s not like he’s a defensive manager either.

“Rafa [Benitez]. Rafa’s conversation is ‘These four games, if I keep you up, I want a massive bonus and this for next year.’ I think Rafa will take it.”

Big question

Leeds fans will not want Benitez because of his style of football but if he can keep them up, it’s a discussion worth having.

Andrea Radrizzani cannot guarantee him the job for next season because he himself may not be at the club if the takeover goes ahead.

The San Francisco 49ers may decide to bring in a better manager and they will not mind sacking Benitez even if he keeps them up.

If he’s open to this condition and if they are no other managers out there, it makes sense to appoint a manager that’s won the Champions League.

He will certainly tighten up the defence, command the respect of the dressing room and it could be a very good quick fit.

However, this decision needs to be made very soon or things can go south pretty soon, given the games they have up ahead.
