Former Leeds United coach Franz Schiemer confirms Elland Road exit

Franz Schiemer, one of Jesse Marsch’s trusted allies confirms that he left Leeds United when the American was shown the door.

According to Training Ground Guru [July 2022], the Austrian moved to Elland Road last February and saw his role changing.

He was a coach on a day-to-day basis but ahead of the current season, he decided to work as a consultant rather than getting involved in the daily coaching affairs of the club.

In an interview with Krone, Schiemer confirmed that he was no longer at Elland Road, saying of Marsch, “There was already a great deal of trust between us.”

Right move?

Keeping Schiemer may not have been the worst thing in the world as he would bring a certain winning pedigree to the club.

He may have not made over 20 appearances for the Austria national team but was a good player in the domestic league and won four titles – two with Austria Vienna and two with RB Salzburg.

However, it seems like he was loyal to Marsch and decided to leave with him which means there’s a good chance he joins his backroom team at his next club.

Javi Gracia has also brought in certain coaches to his backroom team and there are a few who have still stayed on at the club.

The hierarchy needs to make a decision sooner rather than later over the Spaniard’s future as if their priority managers are likely to be available in the summer.

Arne Slot, Marcelo Gallardo and Andoni Iraola are all possibilities and if Gracia’s style of football isn’t as appealing, it does make sense to bring in one of those.
