Former Leeds players and Russell Crowe send messages to fans on 100th birthday
Leeds celebrate their 100th birthday today and there’s been an outpouring of support on Twitter from fans, senior figures in the game and former players.
Pontus Jansson was a fan favourite at Elland Road and although he left the club under a bit of a cloud in the summer, he sent a heartfelt message from “me and my family”.
Plenty of fans were loving that and replied to their former centre-back, with a big section urging him to come back to Leeds. Sadly, that ship has sailed now.
He wasn’t the only former player who was remembering his time at Leeds today.
Tony Dorigo, Noel Whelan and Ian Harte, among others, all sent messages to the fans on Twitter.
And both the Kaiser Chiefs and Russell Crowe recorded short videos to mark the occasion.
The celebrations continue in Millennium Square this afternoon before a celebratory dinner at Elland Road for those who can afford the £200-a-head tickets.
We’re also expecting to get the first glimpse at the special centenary kit later on today.
Until then, enjoy these messages from the former players.
Congratulations on your 100th birthday Leeds United from me and my family! Wish you all the best! @LUFC
