Former Leeds boss claims Elland Road experience proudest moment of his career

Simon Grayson has labelled his promotion from League One to the Championship with Leeds United as the proudest moment of his career.

It was a great year at Elland Road, with Grayson even leading the Whites to the famous 1-0 victory at Old Trafford – what a day.

The win over Bristol Rovers on the final day of that season summed up what it means to be Leeds. We never take the easy route and Max Gradel’s red card and going one goal down were two of the obstacles Grayson had to overcome.

Grayson has the added joy of being a Leeds fan, and he spoke of that after being questioned on his proudest moment.

“The proudest one is the promotion with Leeds because of what it meant as a supporter and what it meant to the city, and how we overcame a lot of adversity in that particular time,” he told The Gazette.

Grayson was the last manager to achieve promotion with Leeds, but that is surely about to change under Marcelo Bielsa who has gone above and beyond.

That League One season was full of adversity as Grayson said, and Bielsa has made sure that his side are truly the best in the division and can go up with no question marks surrounding the Whites.

Just look at the stats, Leeds currently are top in terms of possession, shots on goal and highest average match rating according to WhoScored – something that wouldn’t have been the case under Grayson, although he is still regarded one of our recent best.
