Former Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder top candidate for Leeds United job

Former Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder is reportedly the leading contender to take over the helm at Leeds United after watching the Manchester United clash.

According to Dutch media outlet VI [12 February], Erik ten Hag’s former assistant watched his ex-mentor defeat what could be his next club by a 2-0 scoreline.

90 Min reported that he was set to have talks with the Leeds hierarchy shortly after the full-time whistle.

Can do better

He took charge of Club Brugge midway through the 2021/22 season and ended up guiding them to the league title with his stock being on a high.

He worked as an assistant not just under ten Hag but also at Barcelona and Ajax thought it would be right to appoint him to replace the Manchester United-bound manager.

However, they soon realised that it was the wrong decision and decided to sack him and he’s now likely to be the next Leeds manager.

Given the managers they’ve been linked with, they can surely do better than someone who failed recently at Ajax in a league that they should be dominating.

If not, we’re hoping that his spell at Elland Road goes completely differently than the one in Amsterdam as he cannot afford a repeat of it.

Relegation is still very much a possibility and the man in charge must do everything he can to inspire the players from the get go as it’s important to quickly turn around fortunes.
