‘For some reason…’ – Jack Grealish questions rivalry & ‘banter’ with Leeds fans
Aston Villa playmaker Jack Grealish has questioned why he receives abuse from Leeds United fans in a recent interview.
Leeds and Villa have had a strong rivalry in recent years, going from their Championship clashes to the 3-0 win at Villa Park this season.
The Whites faithful have a strong dislike for Grealish and the likes of Dean Smith, even down to Villa-based pundits such as Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking on Soccer AM, Grealish was asked if the needle he gets from other fans frustrates him online after and during games.
“I don’t mind at all stick off other fans,” he said.
“It’s usually just off the same fans – Blues fans, West Brom, Wolves, and then Leeds for some reason. I’m not sure why Leeds fans, I can obviously understand the ones that are close to us and rivals.
“It’s all just banter.”
Grealish has been influential for Villa this season, but he was kept quiet easily by the Whites back in that win earlier in October.
The 25-year-old was booked, and only completed 75% of his passes according to WhoScored, being dispossessed five times by the relentless pressure of Leeds.
Villa and Grealish may question the rivalry between them and Leeds, but it has turned into one that has grown even bigger than some of the ones with the other Midlands clubs.
Ever since that famous 1-1 draw which involved Marcelo Bielsa allowing them to score and Patrick Bamford’s dive, there has been added spice to this one, and we expect that to continue.
