Football finance expert drops fresh £45m Leeds United update after Elland Road Sunday development

Leeds United will have to pay £42million in “avoiding relegation bonuses” if they secure their Premier League status after the club’s accounts were released.

The Whites’ accounts were published on Sunday (8 April) on Companies House and are readily available to be viewed by fans, journalists and experts.

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire has taken a deeper look into the published report and has revealed the club will have to pay £42million in bonuses if they secure their top-flight status (personal Twitter account, 8 April).

Furthermore, the Yorkshire side may have to pay £3million in transfer add-ons depending on their league status.

Significant

That is certainly a significant amount of money for the board to fork out if they do secure their league status. However, the riches and importance of being a top-flight club will outweigh the £45million payment. The bonuses have clearly been incorporated into the board’s thinking and it won’t put the club in a precarious position.

With the 49ers also set to take charge of the club in the near future, there’s certainly a lot of work to be done behind the scenes to ensure a seamless and efficient transition.

It’s a saga that the Elland Road faithful will be desperate to come to an end. Andrea Radrizzani has done a lot during his time in West Yorkshire, but it’s clear fresh investment is needed to make Leeds one of the country’s big hitters once again.

There’s certainly a positive feeling around Elland Road at the moment, with Javi Gracia slowly steering the Whites closer to Premier League safety. A fresh start in the top flight come the beginning of the 2023/24 season is exactly what everyone is after.

In other Leeds United news, the decision has been made for the club to splash the cash this summer.
