‘First time that I felt like this’ – Player singles out Leeds moment as toughest in career
Leeds United defender Gaetano Berardi has opened up on the heartbreak of losing in the play-offs against Derby County last season.
The Swiss enforcer admitted that it took him weeks to recover from that disappointment after naming it as the toughest moment in his career.
We can definitely share that feeling and the realisation that promotion wouldn’t happen after such a phenomenal year.
Berardi shared how it affected the squad, something which you wouldn’t be able to tell based on this season’s reaction.
“After last year, after the playoff game against Derby,” he said in an official Q&A.
“It was really difficult for everyone, but if I have to say about me, it was really, really hard to take it.
“It was the first time that I felt like this, I spent many weeks thinking about that and I couldn’t enjoy any moment even if I was at my house.”
There is a question mark over the future of Berardi at Elland Road, with his contract set to expire at the end of this current season.
Berardi is expected to complete the final nine games of the campaign, although it has also been shared that he would like to return to Italy at some point in his career.
That game against Derby would certainly become a distant memory should the Whites get over the line this season and seal promotion – hopefully automatically after lifting the title though.
