First Leeds United start could be on cards for Crysencio Summerville v Aston Villa

Leeds United could hand Under-21 starlet Crysencio Summerville has first start against Aston Villa next weekend, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The 20-year-old has had to wait for his chance at Elland Road longer than he would have liked after his move to Yorkshire from Feyenoord in 2020 but circumstances may have finally fallen in his favour.

American international Brenden Aaronson has played the majority of games so far on the right wing but he could be asked to feature in the number 10 role with Rodrigo unlikely to be risked with his shoulder problem.

Luis Sinisterra would normally be the obvious replacement in that role but he is only due to return to British shores 48 hours before kick-off against the Villans after his international duty with Colombia ends.

As a result, Marsch may choose to play Summerville off the right-hand side for what would be his first start in the Premier League with Villa likely to be without usual left-back Lucas Digne through injury.

Digne’s injury could not come at a more perfect time for Marsch and Leeds United who now have the chance to give a young potential star of the future his first proper chance against a left-back yet to play a minute for the opponents.

It would likely be Swedish international Ludwig Augustinsson who replaces the former Everton man for Steven Gerrard’s side and that uncertainty should be great encouragement for the Whites.

As a Dutch youth international, Summerville will be used to playing in big matches but the pressure of a Premier League game in front of a packed Elland Road will be a big test for him.

he could have been the Raphinha replacement this season but Marsch wanted Sinisterra and got him so now it is down to the 20-year-old to prove the manager wrong and himself right.

Things could, of course, change in the week until kick-off on 2 October but it would be a surprise to see either the Colombian or Rodrigo start the game.

In other Leeds United news, one of Summerville’s fellow Under-21 starlets has revealed the advice he got before he made his first start for the club.
