Finlay Gorman confirms Leeds United exit after Fabrizio Romano transfer update

Leeds United wonder Finlay Gorman has sent a goodbye message to the Whites, thanking them for their role in his development following his move to Manchester City.

The 15-year-old academy gem has reportedly signed a three-year deal with the Premier League champions according to Fabrizio Romano [25 December] and will depart Thorp Arch having spent seven years in the Leeds academy.

While the move will have come as a blow to the Whites and their academy set-up, Gorman has been quick to thank Leeds for their role in his development and shared his gratitude to his coaches and teammates.

In a post on his Instagram account (27 December) he said: “Just want to give a big thank you to Leeds United for developing me and giving me the best support to make me the player I am today, something I will always be grateful for.

“I wish the best for everyone involved in the club and my teammates after the 7 years I have been there.”

Big future ahead

It may not be with Leeds United, but it looks like Gorman is set to have a bright future in the footballing world and it is just a shame that he won’t continue his development at Elland Road.

Given the youngster’s impressive displays in the Whites’ academy teams, Premier League sides were always likely to be circling to poach his signature and it was going to be hard for Leeds to fend off interest from a Premier League superpower like Manchester City.

The only boost for Leeds is the fact that they are set to receive a good fee for the youngster, while it won’t make up for the blow of losing one of their brightest academy products, it makes the pain of the deal slightly reduced.

What is clear from Gorman’s message to the club on Wednesday is that he has a very mature head on his shoulders. The message to the Whites is incredibly classy, especially considering the fact he is only 15 years old.

He may not make an appearance for the Leeds United first team, but there is clearly plenty of respect between Gorman and the club.
