Feyenoord manager Arne Slot wanted by Leeds United - Dutch journalist

Feyenoord manager Arne Slot is on a list of potential new Leeds United managers after Jesse Marsch was sacked on Monday, according to Martijn Krabbendam.

The Voetbal International journalist has told the Dick Voormekaar Podcast that Slot, 44, is on Leeds’ radar after an impressive season and a half in charge at Feyenoord.

Marsch was axed on Monday (6 February) with Leeds’ goal difference the only thing keeping them out of the Premier League’s relegation zone after the 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Sunday (5 February).

Many names have been linked with the job at Elland Road and Slot is now the latest one.

“Leeds United, he seems to be on a list there,” said Krabbendam, as quoted by FR-Fans.nl.

“Nice club, big club. It really is a great club, and he would fit in there too.”

New name in the mix

It’ll be interesting to see if Slot’s name gets mentioned here in the UK because so far, Krabbendam is the only one to bring him up in relation to the Leeds vacancy.

Slot has done a good job at Feyenoord.

The former AZ Alkmaar manager was hired by the Rotterdam club in July 2021, leading them to the Europa Conference League final in his first season.

The Dutchman also won the Rinus Michels Award for the 2021/22 season, which is awarded to the best manager in the Eredivise.

Feyenoord finished third, behind Ajax and PSV, last term while this season, Luis Sinisterra’s former club is top of the Dutch top-flight with a two-point lead over AZ Alkmaar after 20 games.

Should Leeds make a move for him?

He’s certainly an up-and-coming coach on the continent and he’s barely put a foot wrong at De Kuip so far.

Leeds have taken a chance on managers like Slot in the past but we have to question whether he’d leave a title chase midway through a season to join a Premier League relegation battle.

That’s going to be our issue if we try to hire a manager who’s in work.
