Ferguson ready to drive Postecoglou to Leeds United on Thursday afternoon amid Celtic exit speculation
Former Rangers midfielder Barry Ferguson would be ready to drive Celtic boss Ange Postecoglu to Leeds United on Thursday afternoon amid links with the Elland Road vacant manager’s job.
According to the Daily Record [8 February, page 52], the Greek-Australian boss has been deemed a perfect fit at Elland Road to replace the outgoing Jesse Marsch, given his exciting style of football which he has harnessed at Celtic Park.
However, the Bhoys chiefs are confident [Daily Record, 8 February] Postecoglou would reject any approach from Leeds United with the club hierarchy believing that he is happy and committed to working at the club and winning them another league title.

And speaking in his column for the Daily Record [9 February], Ferguson comically said he’d be happy to drive the Celtic manager over to Elland Road if that helps Rangers in their quest to topple their Old Firm Rivals.
He said: “I don’t know where Postecoglu’s house is. But if someone would be kind enough to pass me his home address, I’ll gladly nip over there this afternoon and offer him a lift down the road to Leeds United.
“Let’s be honest, they might not be willing to admit it but there’s hardly a Rangers fan out there who wouldn’t be quietly relieved if the big Aussie was tempted away from Glasgow for a shot at the English Premier League. And I’m pretty sure Michael Beale would feel the same way.”
Perfect fit
Postecoglu is currently undergoing a remarkable job at Celtic Park and is certainly on course to lead the club to a second Scottish Premiership trophy in a row.
The Australian’s managerial credentials seem the perfect fit for the Whites, playing a rich and exciting brand of football, possessing the qualities and character to galvanise a young and inexperienced squad and the potential to cause an uproar amongst the elite in the Premier League.

Such characteristics will quickly endear him to the club board and the huge fanbase, but any dream of acquiring his services right now is understandably in the bin.
There is simply no way the Australian would leave his post now to join a needless relegation battle, considering the heights he’s about to achieve over at Celtic Park. And indeed, any Rangers fan would certainly jump at the chance to call shotgun sitting alongside Ferguson in driving Postecoglu down to Elland Road to accept the managerial position.
However, this is a pipe dream that could still be kept alive if the Whites remain in the Premier League for next season. If that is the case, they’d have a better chance of persuading Postecoglu to try his trade in the English top flight.
But, what the club do in the meantime, in their attempts to secure the coveted Premier League safety come May remains uncertain.
