Farke reacts to Meslier exit talk, shares what he’s done at Leeds
Daniel Farke likes that Illan Meslier is critical of himself after showing loyalty to Leeds United despite transfer interest.
The French shot-stopper made a terrible error against Hull City on 4 January in a mistake which has resulted in outbound transfer rumours at Elland Road.
Regardless of this mistake, Farke has backed his number one goalkeeper in his press conference, shared by Beren Cross via X (9 January).
He said: “He was disappointed with the last performance. He is self-critical. I like this. He is a 24-year-old man, who came as a teen, always loyal to the club, during interest in him.
“Stayed to pay something back and win that trust back. Named as the best goalkeeper in the league last year.”
Daniel Farke reacts to Illan Meslier transfer rumours at Leeds United
The 24-year-old has come under fire this season more than most as consistent mistakes have threatened to derail the Whites’ season.
This has seen the keeper linked with a move away from LS11 with Manchester United showing an interest in bringing him to Old Trafford [TEAMtalk].
There wouldn’t be many supporters, based on the reaction in recent weeks, that would necessarily be disappointed if the Frenchman were to depart.
It does appear that Farke wants to keep hold of his number-one shot-stopper and is pleased with his attitude despite making a mistake.
With that being said, regardless of his loyalty to Leeds and a string of positive performances this campaign, these errors can’t be ignored.
The Yorkshire club currently sit top of the Championship but throwing away leads like they did against Hull will catch up with them and give Sunderland and Co. hope of catching up.
If Meslier carries on in this vein and costs his side further, Farke will have a decision to make.
