Fan arrested over alleged racism during Leeds United v Arsenal

Leeds United have confirmed in a statement that there has been an arrest made over alleged racial comments directed towards the Arsenal bench.

This incident took place during the Whites’ 4-1 loss against the Gunners at Elland Road on Saturday,

After the game, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, being a spokesperson of the club, stated, “Yes unfortunately I can confirm that. It was reported to the stadium manager then the authorities will deal with that.”

The BBC’s Adam Pope relayed Leeds’ official statement via his personal Twitter account, which said, “Arrest made re alleged racism: “Leeds United can confirm that an investigation into claims of racism during the first half of our game with Arsenal today are underway, and that one arrest has been made in connection to the allegation.

“Racism will not be tolerated at Leeds United and any supporter found to be using racist language will be subject to a life time ban for all Leeds United games.”

Good on Leeds

Racism is an evil not just in football, but society at large, and Leeds have done a good job to take action immediately.

It’s good that Arsenal quickly addressed this issue and did not sit on it for even a day.

This facilitated the process of finding out the perpetrators and handing justice to whoever was racially abused.

Leeds United

Hopefully, this sends a message to anyone who thinks of shouting racial slurs at football matches or anywhere in the world.

A stadium ban must follow as it’s the only adequate punishment along with a hefty fine.

Leeds appear keen on tackling this issue and they must keep up to their promise and take the necessary action required.
