Fabrizio Romano shares Leeds United transfer boost as they aim to sign Raphael Guerreiro from Borussia Dortmund

Leeds United have been looking to sign Borussia Dortmund left-back Raphael Guerreiro – and they could have been given a big boost after Fabrizio Romano’s latest update.

The Guardian journalist has revealed (via Twitter, 11 December) that the Bundesliga side are “actively working” to sign Borussia Mönchengladbach left-back Ramy Bensebaini, which could allow for the Portuguese defender to depart in the summer.

TEAMtalk revealed (26 November) that Leeds see the 28-year-old as the ideal fit to solve their left-back issue and that they could look to pursue a January deal.

Former Bleacher Report journalist Dean Jones has suggested (10 December, GIVEMESPORT) that there’s a concern growing in West Yorkshire that they won’t be able to convince Guerreiro to join the club due to their Premier League position.

However, if he is likely to be the second choice at Dortmund, then there’s every chance the defender could well be convinced to move to Leeds and be Jesse Marsch’s go-to left-back. The Whites could also use the Bundesliga side’s interest in Cody Drameh (Daily Mail, 11 November) to help push a move through.

With the January window fast approaching Marsch will be looking to get a left back and a striker through the door at Elland Road as quickly as possible. Junior Firpo is simply not up to the standard required and Pascal Struijk is far better suited to playing in the centre of defence.

Getting business done early and not desperately hunting for targets at the end of the window is a must for Leeds. We all saw in the summer the issues with trying to do deadline day moves and it’s something which cannot be repeated in the winter window.

In other Leeds United, 36 scouts recently showed up to watch multiple Leeds sensations with as many as four exits on the cards in the January transfer window.
