Fabrizio Romano shares ‘Excellent News’ for Leeds United

Archie Gray has agreed a new contract at Elland Road which is “excellent” news for Leeds United, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian transfer guru shared on his personal Twitter account (16 January) his reaction after Leeds United confirmed on their website that the Thorp Arch academy graduate had agreed a new deal at the club until 2028.

The midfielder’s deal was set to expire in 2025, but has now further committed his future to his boyhood club on the back of a breakthrough season under Daniel Farke going on to make 26 starts in all competitions.

Romano posted: “Leeds United talent Archie Gray has agreed a new contract valid until June 2028. New contract runs for next four and half years and will replace a previous deal which was due to expire in 2025.

“Excellent news for Leeds United.”

Stunning

This is a stunning development for the whole club and it’s supporters just when the transfer interest in Gray’s services ahead of 2024 were so rife.

When Premier League clubs like Liverpool are rumoured to be an interested party you know you’re doing incredibly well and that’s what Gray has achieved at Elland Road since his emergence.

Leeds United

The teenager has been absolutely superb so far this campaign as he has propelled himself to be one of the first names on the teamsheet at the club despite playing as a right-back.

That certainly makes his development and progress all the more spectacular given he isn’t even playing in his favoured midfield role but Farke certainly knows what he is doing with Gray’s position as the role will add a whole new dimension to his tactical understanding of the game when he eventually moves back into midfield.

It was hugely important the Whites secured his future especially given the amount of players they’ve been forced to let go after their relegation.

Gray’s new contract is a massive statement from Leeds United and could well also be a reminder to the likes of Crysencio Summerville and Illan Meslier who are also touted for big moves that the grass isn’t always greener.

Surely they’ll be looking at Gray’s deal with much glee and careful consideration. But, Premier League football must be sealed again first and foremost.

In other Leeds news, one Elland Road loanee may be gearing up for a move to Paris Saint-Germain following a major European development.
