Fabrizio Romano shares Bournemouth stance as Leeds United and Sheffield United launch Chris Mepham enquiry

Fabrizio Romano has shared Bournemouth’s stance on Chris Mepham as both Leeds United and Sheffield United have launched an enquiry to sign him.

The Sky Sports journalist claims that the Cherries have snubbed both enquiries as they view as an important first-team player.

Both Leeds and Sheffield United were keen on signing the 26-year-old ahead of the transfer deadline on 1 Feb at 11pm.

Romano wrote on Twitter: “Bournemouth have turned down two approaches from Leeds and Sheffield United for Chris Mepham.

“Both clubs enquired but Bournemouth have rejected as he’s important for them in the final run in and will not leave the club.”

Move on

Leeds cannot afford to dwell on such things and they need to be proactive in the market.

If Mepham was their top target and it didn’t work out, it’s not the end of the world and there will be plenty of players willing to join.

Leeds might be in the second division but they’re within touching distance of an automatic promotion spot.

A good run in towards the end of the season should put them in second spot and signing a player of Mepham’s calibre will help.

That being said, more than a centre-back, Leeds need a right-back as Djed Spence and Luke Ayling are both no longer at the club.

Signing a full-back who can play on either side will be what Daniel Farke will be targeting but he’s got to tell the club to hurry him as there’s not long left.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites could now move fast to sign a West Ham defender with just a few negotiation points left to iron out.
