Fabrizio Romano reveals Chelsea sell-on clause twist as Leeds United set to sign Ethan Ampadu
Fabrizio Romano has revealed a sell-on clause twist as Leeds United have agreed a deal and personal terms to sign Chelsea defender Ethan Ampadu.
The Sky Sports Italy journalist claims [17 July] that there will be no buy-back clause, however, the Blues have included a sell-on clause in the agreement.
This means that if the Whites are to sell him in the future, Chelsea will be entitled to a part of the transfer fee, based on the finer details of the agreement.
Via Twitter, Romao wrote, “More on the Ethan Ampadu-Leeds deal. Understand Chelsea will include sell on clause into the agreement. NO buy back clause; only sell-on.”
Fair enough
Chelsea are known to be good sellers as they’ve proven this summer and Ampadu is one among many to be shown the door.
It makes sense on their behalf to include a sell-on clause as he’s only 22 and can better in the future and be worth a lot more.
Had Leeds not agreed to this clause, they would’ve had to pay more money up front and the transfer fee would’ve risen unnecessarily.

They cannot afford to do that, given the number of players leaving and he seemed to be a priority move and they’ve ended up getting him pretty quickly.
Often, Leeds have taken their time to get a deal done for a player despite registering interest in him for a while.
However, news emerged of Ampadu not too long ago and now everything seems to be done with an announcement unlikely to be too far away.
In other Leeds United news, the club have been handed a boost to sign a Manchester United player this summer with Erik ten Hag likely to sanction his exit.
