Fabrizio Romano: Leeds United reach Pascal Struijk agreement, ‘it’s done’

Leeds United have reached an agreement on a new contract with Dutch defender Pascal Struijk, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Struijk, 23, has been in superb form this season and he has been rewarded with a contract extension that will keep him at Elland Road until 2027.

Guardian journalist Romano shared on Twitter on Thursday morning (1 December) that documents are drafted, and the player will be getting an improved salary.

“Leeds have reached an agreement with Pascal Struijk on new contract, it will be valid until 2027 — it’s done,” wrote Romano.

“Documents are drafted — improved salary and new deal will be making Struijk one of key players of the club, after brilliant first part of the season.”

Wow

This is huge news, and the club has done the right thing by sorting out Struijk’s contract.

Under Marcelo Bielsa, the 23-year-old made a strong impression, but very few would have imagined that he would become one of the leading players for the club in such a short time.

This season, in the absence of a proper left-back at the club, the Dutchman has played in the left-back position, and he has been terrific in that role as well.

The long-term deal offered to him is an indication that Jesse Marsch keeps strong faith in his abilities. The club want to secure his prime years at Elland Road.

There is also another aspect to it – the transfer market. The way Struijk has been developing, it won’t be long before top Premier League or European clubs will start to take him seriously.

Leeds can command a high transfer fee for him in that case. But that’s a conjecture. For now, it’s a huge delight that the club has been able to secure his signing on a new contract.
