Fabrizio Romano: Leeds United beaten to Sheffield United talent Kylan Midwood as terms agreed
Manchester City have beaten Leeds United to the signing of Sheffield United youngster Kylan Midwood, according to the Guardian’s Fabrizio Romano.
City are understood to have pipped Leeds, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Newcastle United to the under-15 player, with a deal now agreed with the Championship side (Fabrizio Romano, Twitter, 2 December).
The Premier League Champions are looking to develop and sign the best British prospects, with the club eager to offer a pathway into the first team.
Even though Leeds were beaten to Midwood, it’s good to see the club linked with promising young talent on a regular basis. The Whites have typically looked to add players who are around the age of 18 to their under-21s squad before looking to give them a chance in Jesse Marsch’s first eleven.
It’s a ploy that they must continue to do, with a number of the first team squad following that path. Sonny Perkins and Mateo Joseph look like the next batch of young talent which could soon burst onto the scene at Elland Road. Both players featured in Leeds’ 1-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Wolves, with neither looking out of place.
Missing out to Manchester City shouldn’t come as a shock to fans, with the Manchester side harbouring some of the best young talents in the World. It would be impossible for a young player such as Midwood to turn down the chance to work in such an environment.
Regardless, he won’t be the last young player Leeds are linked with over the next couple of months, with the club always looking to add to their growing pool of youth prospects at Elland Road.
In other Leeds United news, we can exclusively reveal that a takeover by the 49ers could be done within weeks.
