We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson has said that the Leeds fans were “outstanding” on Saturday and cheered the Fulham result more than they did the Luke Ayling goal that won the game at Elland Road.
Leeds built a three-point buffer back to Fulham in third as every other team in the top seven dropped points over the weekend.
The most surprising result was Fulham losing 3-0 to bottom of the table Barnsley at Craven Cottage and the Leeds fans knew just how important that was.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “It was a huge result on Saturday but even more so because of the other results that went on.
“Fulham losing to Barnsley was a real coupon buster and it was a huge boost at Elland Road when that result came in. There was more of a cheer than when the goal went in.
“The performance at Brentford was an improvement but Saturday was much more convincing and Leeds should have won by a much bigger margin.”
Andrea Radrizzani angered the fans recently after imploring them to get behind the team, but Robinson thinks they always do that.
“The Leeds fans are outstanding, they support their team,” Robinson added.
“All they want is minimum effort and when they get that they’re going to be happy. They could see that on Saturday, they’re a very educated bunch of supporters.”
The atmosphere at Elland Road on Saturday was exceptional, although the game was nervier than it should have been.
The other results couldn’t have gone any better for Leeds who could have dropped out of the top two and seen West Brom build a nine-point lead at the top.
Instead, Leeds have a three-point buffer back to Fulham in third and no one could have predicted their result. As Robinson said, it was a real coupon buster but one that the Leeds fans absolutely loved.
