Exclusive: Pundit gushes over ‘outstanding’ pass master as ESPN claim Leeds want to sign PL star
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson has said that Sergio Romero’s distribution and passing is “outstanding” and that the Man United keeper could “fit the bill” at Leeds.
The goalkeeping situation at Leeds is uncertain with speculation mounting about the future of Kiko Casilla after the keeper was banned for racially abusing Jonathan Leko.
ESPN have claimed that Leeds want Romero at Elland Road and Robinson said he’s a “good goalkeeper”.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said, “I think his distribution is outstanding. The times I’ve seen him play, with his feet and his passing he’s got top-level distribution.
“As far as his goalkeeping goes, I’ve not seen much of him because he’s only been a bit-part player at Man United, but what I have seen I’ve really liked. He’s a good goalkeeper.
“Leeds will need to strengthen, depending on whether Casilla stays but that’s looking more and more unlikely as days go by.
“They’ve signed Meslier and he’s been absolutely outstanding, he’s growing with each game. I thought he was unlucky to lose his place to Casilla against Derby.
“If they go with Meslier they’ll need a really experienced keeper who can be the number one every week.
“He might also have to bide his time, though, so Romero might fit the bill.”
We don’t think Casilla should play for Leeds again and Romero would be our number one choice to replace him.
Meslier did brilliantly last season but the step up to the Premier League is a big one and the youngster will need an experienced set of gloves behind him at Elland Road.
