Exclusive: Paul Robinson blown away by 'absolutely incredible' moment v Man City

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United

Paul Robinson has said the late run the length of the pitch by Stuart Dallas that sealed the win for Leeds United against Man City epitomise everything about the team under Marcelo Bielsa.

Leeds beat the champions-elect with a late goal at The Etihad after playing more than half the game with 10 men after Liam Cooper was sent off.

Raphinha was also through one-on-one late but couldn’t finish and it seemed like Leeds would have to settle for a draw.

However, Dallas got his second in injury time and Leeds took the three points back to Elland Road.

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “It was the result and performance of the season by a long way.

“I was worried about the open, expansive football we play and leaving ourselves wide open.

“I thought we might lose by three or four – you look at the team sheets and the gulf is huge.

“To hold their own, the result is absolutely incredible. When we went down to 10 you feared the worst, you thought just get through it and try not to concede too many.

“They were absolutely phenomenal, it was an amazing result. In all honesty, it was a freak result but a freak result that was deserved and well worked for.

“When you look at the stats the Leeds players got to, the levels they hit, the running they did… Yes, it was difficult, yes they were under the cosh, but they put the work in.

“When you look at how far Stuart Dallas ran in the last minute, that really shows you the fitness levels of the players and it epitomises everything that Leeds are about, the fitness, the way they played to the final whistle.

“A player who has been criticised recently and I’ve criticised him quite openly for his defensive capabilities, Alioski, he put a brilliant ball through to Dallas for that goal.

“The pass has been overlooked because the goal was so good. The weight of the pass was just perfect.”
