Exclusive: 'I like him a lot' – Paul Robinson hails Leeds teenager who will 'come into the side'

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson has praised new Leeds signing Ian Poveda saying he has “real talent” and predicted that “he will come into the side”.

The 19-year-old winger signed from Man City in January and has been an unused sub in the last two Leeds games.

Many fans wanted to see him introduced in the 1-0 defeat to Wigan on Saturday but Robinson thinks his time will come.

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “I’ve seen Poveda play a couple of times and I like him a lot.

“He’s a really creative player, he’s played for the Man City first team and there’s real talent there.

“It’s no surprise that Leeds didn’t spend any real money in January but they did get three signings that will definitely strengthen the squad, especially with Kiko Casilla’s possible ban coming up.

“They’re all calculated risks, though, none of them are proven in the Championship.

“However, I believe Poveda will come into the Leeds side before too long.”

Marcelo Bielsa does things his way and he warned fans that it would take any new player time to get up to speed with his system.

Poveda has been on the bench twice while new striker signing Jean-Kevin Augustin wasn’t in the squad for the 1-0 loss to Wigan.

We expect both new players to be on the bench for the game against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

But, while Robinson expects Poveda to get in the side soon, we don’t believe it will happen on Saturday despite the poor form of Helder Costa against Wigan.

Leeds travel to the City Ground to play Nottingham Forest in the late kick-off on Saturday.
