Significant Leeds update on potential ‘blockbuster’ Adidas kit deal reported
Leeds United fans have been eagerly waiting for confirmation of a new kit deal with Adidas for next season – and they might not have to wait much longer.
Football Insider has reported that Leeds are set to announce a ‘blockbuster’ new deal in February, with the current deal with Kappa set to expire in the summer.
They also claim that Leeds were in talks with Nike and Under Armour too, but that Adidas are expected to be announced as the new kit manufacturer this month.
The pull for Adidas is obvious with Athletic journalist Phil Hay claiming that Leeds had sold 110,000 shirts this season, a figure that puts them in the top six clubs in the country.
New markets, new sales
Fans have wanted an Adidas deal for a long time and pulling in a top company like that shows that Leeds have the pulling power of a Premier League club.
Adidas will likely open new markets for Leeds in Asia and the deal itself will be worth a lot more than the current Kappa one, said to be worth £2m a year.
The deal will likely be contingent on Leeds winning promotion to the Premier League, making the stakes this season even higher.
If Leeds do win promotion and the Adidas deal goes through, we imagine that the sales will dwarf even this season’s centenary figures.
What Leeds fan won’t want a new Adidas kit to celebrate the club finally getting back to the top flight?
