Huge Leeds United cash opportunity emerges as ‘gamble’ backfires at Elland Road

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United

Paul Robinson believes the 49ers now have a “great business opportunity” at Leeds United after acquiring the club for a cut-price fee.

BBC Sport report on 10 June that an agreement had been reached for the club to be sold for £170million following the Whites’ relegation.

Robinson feels the new owners have bought a Premier League club at Championship rates.

“I think it’s a great business opportunity and deal if they get back in the Premier League,” Robinson exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“They’ve bought a Premier League club at Championship rates and Radrizzani will be very disappointed that he didn’t sell earlier. He took the risk and rolled the dice and it hasn’t paid off for him like it did last time.

“He brought Jesse Marsch in last year and it worked for him. This year, it’s not worked. He took a gamble. He could have sold six, ten or eighteen months ago and got a very good price for the club.

“It’s a gamble that hasn’t paid off. I think from his point of view, he listens to Victor Orta far too much. He has to take a lot of blame.

“He hangs his hut on Raphinha and Bielsa – a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then – You look at other players he’s signed. Rutter hasn’t seen the pitch.

“Augustin the club paid £40million for and wasn’t fit and didn’t play. There are other examples of players who aren’t good enough. A lot of the blame has got to stop at his door as well.

“Relegation is a combination of a lot of mistakes. The owner has to take a lot of the blame. Listen, they invested was it the right areas, no it wasn’t.”
