Rafa Mujica finally secured a loan move to Las Palmas on deadline day after weeks of speculation surrounding the Leeds United striker’s future.
Real Oviedo signed Mujica, 22, on a season-long loan last summer but after just five appearances in all competitions and zero league starts, that deal was terminated early.
Las Palmas, who are one of Oviedo’s Segunda Division rivals in Spain and managed by ex-West Brom boss Pepe Mel, ended up landing Mujica.
The former Barcelona youngster made his debut for the Canary Islands outfit on Sunday when he came off the bench for the final stages of a 1-0 loss to Sabadell.
Speaking on Wednesday, Mel waxed lyrical about Mujica’s application since his arrival at Las Palmas
“Mujica gives a magnificent level and we are very happy. He has gotten into work with tremendous enthusiasm from day one,” said the former Premier League manager, as quoted by the Spanish club’s official Twitter account.
Pepe Mel: "Mujica da un nivel magnífico y estamos muy contentos. Se ha metido en el trabajo con una ilusión tremenda desde el primer día".

Finally time for Mujica to settle?
Leeds signed Mujica in July 2019 with the intention of him joining up with the Under-23s but after a very short amount of time in Yorkshire, he was shipped out on loan to Extremadura in Spain’s second tier.
He had a torrid time there and saw his loan deal terminated so he could join Villarreal’s B team on loan instead. After doing a little bit better there and getting more game-time, the season was curtailed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This season, Mujica’s spell at Oviedo has been similar to the one he had at Extremadura.
Now, let’s hope this move to Las Palmas is way more beneficial like the one at Villarreal B was because Mujica’s had a tough time since becoming contracted to Leeds.
Mujica’s deal with the Whites expires at the end of next season so as he’ll enter the final year of his contract in the summer, he’ll have to impress at Las Palmas.
Mel seems to be a fan of the young striker and wants to bed him in slowly.
However, if he’s not starting matches within a few weeks it could be a long marathon until the end of the season for the Leeds outcast.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are set to be snubbed by this midfielder who’s on Victor Orta’s radar.
