Ex Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gushes over Leeds United attacker Dan James

Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has praised Leeds United attacker Dan James in a recent interview with the Athletic.

Before moving to Elland Road, the Wales international was plying his trade at Old Trafford, joining Solskjaer’s side from Swansea.

James famously failed to complete his deadline day switch to Leeds and few months later was playing for their arch rivals in the Premier League.

Speaking about signing him, Solskjaer said, “We wanted Jude Bellingham badly — he’s a Man United player, but I respect he chose Dortmund. That was probably sensible. But it’s why I respect Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Dan James and Jadon. Young players prepared to come into a team that wasn’t 100 per cent there like it was when I arrived.”

Worth the outlay?

Manchester United have been notoriously poor at selling players but somehow managed to make a profit on James.

Despite not performing up to the standards at Old Trafford, Marcelo Bielsa still thought that he could make something out of the Welshman.

Turns out, that one of the most expensive signings in the club’s history was arguably one of the Argentine’s worst in charge at Elland Road.

James spent last season out on loan at Fulham and is now in the Championship and will look to help get the side promoted.

This perhaps is his last chance to prove that he deserves to stay at Elland Road and it remains to be seen where he is in the pecking order.

As of now, it seems like Crysencio Summerville and Wilfried Gnonto are ahead of him in the pecking order but that can change after a few games.

The competition for places is always a healthy thing and Daniel Darke will be looking to get more out of James.

In other Leeds United news, Daniel Farke surely has the last laugh as footage of a £20m+ player has emerged over the past week.
