‘Everything exactly right’ – Tony Dorigo details similarity between Bielsa & Leeds legend
Tony Dorigo has claimed that Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa is similar to Howard Wilkinson because of his attention to detail.
The former Whites defender detailed training sessions under Wilkinson and claimed that Bielsa delivers the exact same levels of clarity to his squad.
Bielsa is on the verge of being the first Leeds manager to seal promotion to the Premier League since Wilkinson with nine games left to play in the Championship.
Dorigo went on to suggest that apart from their attention to detail, Bielsa and Wilkinson are completely different in their methods.
“Their attention to detail,” he told a Fruition IT Webinar, via Leeds Live.
“That is the link between them. The clarity of what they expect, they certainly work behind the scenes to get everything exactly right.
“I look at Bielsa and I think that’s exactly what he provides. Complete clarity. Those players go out on the pitch, they don’t think what should I be doing, they are already two moves ahead, exactly what they’ve practiced to do.
“I think in that respect, they’re pretty similar. Everything else, they’re completely different.”
Not many managers have achieved similar status to Bielsa in such a short amount of time at Elland Road.
It’s not the easiest job in the world to be in charge of the Whites, especially at the time when Bielsa arrived, but he has transformed the club.
Wilkinson was different. He managed to seal promotion to the top-flight and then win the title in our first season back in Division One – times have changed and that won’t happen next year if we do secure promotion, even with Bielsa.
Both are legendary figures but Dorigo is right, they have many, many differences in their styles.
