Everton raise issue over latest development in £100m Leeds United compensation pursuit

Everton have raised an issue after the latest development in the compensation claims from Leeds United, Leicester City and Burnley, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported on its website on Wednesday (22 November) that the Toffees are unhappy that the case will be heard by the same panel that docked them 10 points for breaching the Premier League’s spending rules as the chair of the commission David Phillips KC has previously acted for the Whites.

It said the three clubs in question believe they are entitled to £100million each in compensation after they were relegated in seasons where the Blues were found to have broken the spending limits.

Messy

This has become an extremely messy situation after Everton were handed a 10-point deduction following their spending breach.

While many believe the ruling was excessive, it feels as though the independent commission has looked to set a precedence that overspending will not be tolerated.

Leeds and the other clubs do certainly have a case as this situation has rumbled on for an awful long time and, if a points deduction had been enforced last season, then they could have remained in the Premier League.

Everton probably also have a right to be frustrated that Phillips is set to be involved in the compensation claim given his previous links to the Whites.

It’s so far unclear how this situation will unfold, but it feels like there is an awful long way to go before this is something we hear the last of and a resolution is found.
