Ethan Ampadu set for early return as Leeds United injury news drops

Daniel Farke has revealed that Ethan Ampadu is ahead of his recovery schedule and could return to action sooner than expected.

The 24-year-old has been sidelined since picking up a knee injury in the Whites’ 3-0 win against Coventry City on 28 September.

He was expected to be out of action until January at the earliest, but there are chances he could return before then, according to Farke.

“He’s working hard, already doing some running stuff on the pitch. He’s a bit ahead of schedule”, Farke said via the Yorkshire Evening Post (5 November).

“Normally realistic for him to arrive back in team training middle of December and available for the games at the beginning of January.

“He’s our captain and a versatile player and would love to have him back in training, but we won’t over-rush it because it was a serious injury.

“Let’s see how it develops. During his rehab, you have to extend the load from day to day, and there could be a day where there can be a step back. Too soon to judge.

Ethan Ampadu news huge boost for Leeds United

Leeds United fans will be delighted to hear that Ampadu is ahead of schedule and could resume playing sooner than expected.

The Wales international’s importance to the Whites both as a player and captain cannot be understated and it would be a huge boost to have him back in the team during the busy period in December and January.

Games will come thick and fast during that period and Farke will undoubtedly need his best players to be fit and available, with Ampadu hopefully being one of them.

The manager will now keep his fingers crossed as he hopes the midfielder can return to action soon without further setbacks.

Meanwhile, it would not make sense for Leeds to rush Ampadu back as there is a risk of the player suffering a setback.

Furthermore, Ao Tanaka and Joe Rothwell have done exceptionally well holding the fort in the Welshman and Ilia Gruev’s absence, with Josuha Guilavogui now adding depth in the midfield department.

In other Leeds United news, Farke has confirmed that Patrick Bamford’s availability against Millwall relies on a late call.
