Ethan Ampadu injury news emerges away from Leeds United
Leeds United defender Ethan Ampadu has not featured for the Whites since their 2-1 win over Sunderland last month due to a knee injury.
In the Welshman’s absence, Leeds went on to defeat their closest promotion rivals, Sheffield United, 3-1 at Bramall Lane on 24 February.
But Daniel Farke’s men have subsequently won just one of their last four games while Ampadu has remained sidelined.
Leeds were left disappointed by their recent away defeat at Portsmouth, while they also dropped points in draws with West Brom and QPR on 1 March and 15 March respectively.

Positive Ampadu injury update emerges
Ampadu’s knee injury meant that he was not available for selection the Wales squad who face upcoming World Cup qualifiers with Kazakhstan and North Macedonia.
However, the Welshman could be back in action for Leeds again soon, according to Geraint Hughes.
Speaking live on Sky Sports News [18 March 2:10 pm], Hughes said from the Wales training base: “[Ampadu] has had an absolutely stellar season.
“However, it’s been affected by a serious injury, which I understand he’s not too far away from getting back to fitness from.”

Ampadu’s imminent return is welcome news for Leeds
Despite dropping points in three of their last four games, Farke’s side still sit top of the Championship with just eight games left to play, and appear set to book their spot in next season’s Premier League.
Championship table (Top three) | Games Played | Goal difference | Points |
1 Leeds | 38 | 51 | 80 |
2 Sheffield Utd | 38 | 25 | 80 |
3 Burnley | 38 | 41 | 78 |
However, it is clear to see that the Whites have experienced a wobble of late, which has invited pressure from fellow automatic promotion candidates Sheffield United and Burnley, who both emerged victorious on the weekend.
While Leeds showed their fighting spirit to come back from 2-0 down in order to yield a 2-2 draw from Saturday’s trip to QPR, Ampadu’s return would clearly bolster their promotion-chasing efforts.
The Wales international is one of the best centre-backs in the Championship, and adds plenty of stability into Farke’s side when he is available for selection.
Impressively, Ampadu can also ply his trade as a defensive midfielder, where he has also proven himself as a top drawer player for Leeds.
