Ethan Ampadu injury news emerges ahead of Leeds United v Norwich
Graham Smyth has reported Ethan Ampadu is unlikely to be fit for Leeds United to face Norwich City on Tuesday 1 October.
The 24-year-old was brought off early with a knee issue in the 3-0 win against Coventry City at Elland Road on Saturday [28 September] and is facing a race against time to be fit to feature for The Whites at Carrow Road.
Smyth was quizzed for an update on Ampadu when appearing on The Square Ball podcast [30 September, 4:09] ahead of the midweek trip.
He said: “Amapdu himself told [Daniel] Farke that he doesn’t think it’s that bad, Farke is too careful yet to be optimistic.
“They’re going to wait for it to be assessed, but you’d have to say, looking at the way he was moving, Tuesday would be unlikely.”
Leeds United to be without Ethan Ampadu v Norwich City
The Whites have returned to winning ways in recent weeks however, the mounting injury crisis at Elland Road is becoming a serious cause for concern.
Leeds are already without defender Max Wober, who is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines, and now face the prospect of taking on promotion-rivals Norwich, away from home and without two defensive options.
Ao Tanaka can fill the void left by the Welsh international in defensive midfield if needs must however, given Ampadu’s ability to also slot into the backline alongside Pascal Strujik, the options at Leeds are few and far between.
Not to mention, Farke has an underwhelming record when facing his Championship promotion rivals this season, with a 0-0 draw with West Brom and a 1-0 loss to Burnley. The German is tasked with an even more challenging tie against Norwich with several first starters set to miss out.

With Daniel James and Manor Solomon also missing on the flanks, it will be a tall ask of the players who featured in the win over the weekend to be able to go again for another full 90 minutes at Carrow Road.
Leeds must return to West Yorkshire with all three points on Tuesday, the Whites need to start proving their credentials against the other top Championship sides this season to avoid falling further behind the league leaders in the race for automatic promotion.
In other Leeds United news, a Manor Solomon injury update has been shared ahead of the Whites’ trip to Norwich City.
