Ernesto Valverde mooted to be on top of Leeds United managerial shortlist

Former FC Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde is mooted to be on top of Leeds United managerial shortlist to succeed Marcelo Bielsa.

According to the Daily Express, he should be the favourite to succeed the Argentine after a run of dismal results.

Leeds suffered a 4-0 defeat against Spurs in the same week that they lost 6-0 to Liverpool, putting Bielsa’s Elland Road future in huge jeopardy.

Stay away

Valverde may have won some trophies at Barcelona and has a career win rate of 53 per cent, he’s not the right man for Leeds.

Bielsa thrilled the Elland Road faithful by playing a fearless brand of football, aiming to take the game to the opposition in every game.

On the other hand, the Spaniard opts for a more pragmatic style of play.

His Barcelona teams were extremely hard to watch and that’s fine for the Camp Nou hierarchy.

They do not care about the style of football as long as the manager keeps grinding out results.

Leeds

At Leeds, that is far from the case and whoever succeeds Bielsa will have to be a manager that priorities the attacking side of the game.

Valverde does not even know English and does not have a distinct identity that he can get across as Bielsa managed to do.

He’s clearly not suited for Premier League football and we’re hoping the club do not make a move for him.
