‘Good time to be Leeds’: Sky pundit claims Whites homing in on another signing; delivers verdict
Sky Sports pundit David Prutton has delivered his verdict on Robin Koch after he claimed Leeds United were homing in on the Freiburg centre-back.
He would be the second of two big-name signings Leeds are hoping to get over the line imminently.
Valencia striker Rodrigo looks to be the first, with Athletic journalist Phil Hay saying that he’s “just waiting for the nod” on Friday night.
On Rodrigo, Prutton said the striker would be, “enormous for the club, especially when you look at the pedigree of the player.”
The next player that Leeds fans are hoping to see is Freiburg centre-back Koch.
Mirror journalist David Anderson said that he was set for a medical at Leeds this weekend, after a £13m fee had been agreed.
Prutton thinks that Koch will fit in and be able to fill the sizeable hole left by Ben White, after Brighton refused to sell him back to Leeds.
Writing in the Yorkshire Evening Post, Prutton said, “SC Freiburg defender Robin Koch appears to be the alternative Leeds are going for and we will soon see if he is a good alternative.
“The first port of call is whether a player from a different country can play football in England and forgive me for being stereotypical, but we have seen with German players that they have been typically robust in English football.
“Physically they understand the demands and culturally there are differences and the nuances but fundamentally there is not a huge chasm of difference between the two cultures.”
Adding the two together, Prutton said, “If Koch is signed then Leeds will have strengthened big-name wise at both ends of the pitch.”
He ended by saying, “It’s a good time to be Leeds.”
It’s a very good time to be Leeds
And it has been for two years now since Marcelo Bielsa joined.
He’s got the best win percentage of any Leeds manager and he delivered the club back into the Premier League at the second time of asking.
He was unlucky it wasn’t the first.
He might struggle to keep up his near two-points-per-game record in the Premier League, but Leeds fans are rightly optimistic about how the club will get on.
The FA Cup game against Arsenal showed that the Leeds players, coached by Bielsa, can hack it at the very top level.
And Rodrigo and Koch are very good signings.
We’re disappointed that Ben White won’t get to continue his development at Elland Road under Bielsa, but £13m for Koch is a brilliant consolation.
He’s a full Germany international and, like Prutton, we think he’ll be able to step into the Premier League with ease.
There were always going to be the same questions with White anyway.
