Oxford United captain sends message to Leeds United

Oxford United captain Elliot Moore has labelled Leeds United as a “top team” but sent the message his side will show no fear at Elland Road.

Leeds host the U’s on 21 December with hopes of getting back to winning ways following their disappointing 1-1 draw against Preston last time out.

With Pascal Struijk and Max Wober doubts for the encounter, Daniel Farke may be forced into several changes but should still have more than enough quality at his disposal to beat Oxford whose skipper was full of praise for the Whites while sending a subtle warning.

As quoted in The Herald Series (20 December), Moore said: “It doesn’t really bother me in the way of negativity. Everyone wrote us off against Bolton [Wanderers] in the play-off final and look how that turned out.

“If people want to write us off, then that’s fine. We’ll go out there with a game plan and we need to stick to it. Every game is a challenge and every game has its own challenges. It’s an experience and a game that I’ve never played there personally, so I look forward to going there and facing a challenge like that.

“They’re a top team. You have to respect them and respect the players they’ve got, but we’re not going to not try and win. We want to come away with something from that game.”

Leeds United have to get three points against Oxford

While no clash in the Championship can be labelled as an easy one, a side looking for promotion simply has to win their home games against just about anyone in the division. Let alone a side in the bottom half of the table.

Leeds have dropped points on several occasions already this season and they cant afford a repeat when the U’s make the trip to Elland Road.

Despite there being a few injury concerns, the Whites have an abundance of quality and depth in their squad which when utilised correctly, is more than enough to win games in the Championship.

Perhaps one of their only deficiencies is in the striking department which with links to Evan Ferguson on loan from Brighton, (The Scotsman) they may have found a January resolution.

Leeds United fans
Leeds fans do not like Chelsea.

Farke’s side have put themselves in ane excellent position for a promotion push but consistency between now and the end of the campaign is going to be key.

Consistency at home will arguably the most important factor and ensuring they pick up maximum points in most encounters at Elland Road could be enough to seal a Premier League return.
