Eddie Gray sends Leeds United ‘realistic’ transfer warning

Eddie Gray has issued Leeds United a ‘realistic’ warning as the Whites look to make some key additions in the January window.

Marcelo Bielsa and his team have struggled for form for the most part of the season – finding themselves in 16th with only three wins as January approaches.

The Whites have been riddled with injuries throughout the season with COVID cases giving Bielsa another headache regarding the fitness of his players.

Which has caused increased speculation surrounding Leeds and their plans for the transfer window.

Gray told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “The club will have a look I would think to see who they can bring in. But this is where people have got to be realistic.

“You are not going to go out in the position we are in and buy the best players in the world and you’ve got to look at it from that situation.

“Then you have got to be looking to bring in players to the football club that are better than what you have got and that’s not easy given the budget and where they are playing.

“If somebody says to you there’s carte blanche to go out and buy who you want you could go and buy five of the top players in the country. But that’s not realistic.

“The club will have to look at it and they will have to see if Marcelo first of all does he want anybody in and the type of player that he wants in, are they available?”

Rejuvenate

Leeds United are desperate for some fresh faces around the squad. It would give the team a much-needed lift in several areas.

The first being the increasingly difficult to navigate fitness status of players. As well known, the Whites have struggled massively this season with the fitness of some of their key players.

Now with covid rampantly working its way through clubs, they have another fitness issue to keep up with – a greater squad depth would ease this issue for Bielsa.

This could also offer competition for places for existing members of the Leeds squad that might’ve fallen flat this season. It also gives the opposition something new to consider when facing Leeds.

Teams know what to expect when they come up against these players under Bielsa. New players open up the opportunity for a potential tweak in system as well as bring a new lease of life to the team with any new player hungry to earn a spot in the starting 11.

The Whites are desperate for something new as they look to avoid the relegation zone.
