Eddie Gray reveals what Harry Gray used to say about England and Scotland before Leeds breakthrough

The Gray name has been syonymous with Leeds for decades.

From Eddie Gray cementing his legacy at the club after joining as a teenager in 1965, to his brother Frank and nephew Andy.

One of the latest in the production line has already been and gone, with Archie Gray making the move to Tottenham in 2024. But Leeds still carry high hopes for younger brother Harry Gray, who is currently out on loan at League One side Rotherham.

The 17-year-old forward has made six appearances for the Millers in the third tier, scoring twice as the youngster looks for minutes ahead of a potential future in the first team at Elland Road.

Eligible for both England and Scotland, his great-uncle Eddie has given his thoughts on the international future of both brothers.

Eddie Gray gives thoughts on Gray international future

With almost 50 combined appearances for Scotland running in the family, both Gray brothers are eligible for both Scotland and England.

Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast with Sam Allardyce, Leeds icon Eddie Gray described Harry as “very outspoken,” regarding a potential international future.

“When he was younger he used to say ‘I’m going to play for Scotland’ but I think if he’s good enough he’ll play for England as well.

“Their grandad, my brother (Frank) played for Scotland. Andrew, their dad, played for Scotland as well. It’s a big tradition in the family.”

Gray appeared at the UEFA Under-17 European Championship with England last summer, scoring once in the final group stage match against the Czech Republic.

“If they’re growing up in England, playing for English clubs, I think it just follows that they’ll end up playing for England. Archie’s played for the underage sides for England. If Harry progresses, as it looks like he will, he’ll end up playing for the English sides as well. We’ll wait and see.”

Leeds will hope Gray doesn’t follow the same path as his brother

Currently out on loan at Rotherham, Gray is a potential future star for Leeds, and the club will hope that he doesn’t follow the same path as brother Archie, who made the switch to Tottenham in the summer of 2024 after an impressive season in the Championship.

With Leeds well placed to go on and secure their Premier League survival, the hope will be that Gray’s progression keeps pace and that Daniel Farke is able to slot him seamlessly into the first team sooner rather than later.

The crucial factor though, is that Leeds are able to offer a level of football high enough – something that they were not able to provide for brother Archie.

Following in the footsteps of some big names at the club, seeing another Gray in form for Leeds would mean the world to supporters, and they simply cannot let this one slip as they did almost two years ago.
